Abby's Face Model Is Still Receiving Death Threats From The Last Of Us "Fans"
Jocelyn Mettler, the face model for Abby in The Last of Us Part 2, has revealed that she still gets harassed and sent death threats from toxic The Last of Us "fans".
One of the biggest examples of Gamers being unarguably toxic in recent memory (well, aside from Hogwarts Legacy) is the reaction to Abby in The Last of Us Part 2. Spoilers for a three-year-old Game here, but Abby ends up killing Joel in the opening hours of the Game as revenge for what he did to the Fireflies and her dad, which led to her being one of the internet's most-hated characters, despite Joel unarguably being a bad guy and Abby having an incredible character arc of her own.
It's bad enough that the fictional character of Abby became so hated, but toxic "fans" of The Last of Us decided that applied to anyone who worked on the Game too. Laura Bailey has previously opened up about getting death threats for the role and now Abby's face model, Jocelyn Mettler has revealed that she's still getting them too, several years after The Last of Us Part 2 launched.
Mettler said, "Bro I have not been on Naughty Dog's payroll since 2017. I am not their complaint department. I think you forgot a cc on this one, champ. This isn't even scary. It's just annoying at this point. I work a fucking desk job, for god's sake. I'm sitting here trying to get work done and some idiot decides to write some crybaby shit at me. I always imagine them bawling their eyes out as they do it. It's pathetic."
In another tweet, Mettler says that she hates posting tweets of the abuse she gets, but that she wants everyone to know that it's still going on, even three years after the release of Part 2. She also notes that the TV show means it's not "going away anytime soon", as the franchise and characters are only going to get more popular.
It should go without saying but, no matter how much you love Joel and The Last of Us, don't go harassing real people working a job over a fictional story and fictional characters.
