Pokemon Teases A Lapras Reunion As Ash's Farewell Tour Rolls On
Ash's final run of episodes in the Pokemon anime is nearing its climax in Japan. There are only three more episodes left before Japanese fans say goobye to Ash after following his journey for the last 25 years, and in a series filled with emotional reunions, a teaser has revealed there will be at least one more.
In fact, the episode title alone may well have given away who Ash will be reacquainting himself with in the next episode of the show. His trusty Lapras. As Pikachu, who might also be leaving the anime, happily bounces away on a Walimer, the Pokemon becomes distracted by a Lapras speeding towards them. Yes, it's not just any Lapras, it's the Lapras that joined Ash and Pikachu for part of their journey years ago.
As revealed in the synopsis for the next episode, Lapras needs Ash to help it free a trapped Walimer, which is presumably where they surf off to at speed in the clip below. Rather fitting that the two would reunite to help a Pokemon in need since it was Ash coming to Lapras's aid in the original series that led to the Water and Ice-type eventually becoming a part of the then-fledgling trainer's team.
Ash and Pikachu fought off some boys who were attacking Lapras after the Pokemon had become separated from its family. After saving Lapras for a second time later in the episode, it eventually learned to trust Ash and joined him on his Pokemon journey. Lapras would eventually leave Ash's team and rejoin the school from whence it came later in the same series.
Other than a brief crossing of paths as Ash traversed Johto, he and Lapras haven't seen each other since. Not a reunion many of you will have had on your Ash's farewell tour bingo cards, but one that is bound to add to the emotional baggage that has already been piled on. Once Ash has said his final goodbyes, the path will be paved for new trainer Liko to take his place. Liko will make her anime debut in a new series that starts airing in Japan on April 14.
